The fund provides reimbursement for outpatient counseling and mental health services from licensed mental health professionals. Reimbursement is limited to out-of-pocket expenses including deductibles, co-pays or co-insurance. All available insurance coverage must be exhausted to qualify for reimbursement.
MSU has approved reimbursement of outpatient mental health services provided by a defined group of mental health provider types. Reimbursement requests must be presented with a mental health diagnosis.
Expenses not eligible for reimbursement include, but are not limited to, inpatient services (such as hospital stays), prescription drugs, referral services (such as the Employee Assistance Program) and therapy/support animals.
You may submit requests as often as you want. New Directions processes reimbursement requests throughout the month.
The choice of individual therapist or provider is up to you. As long as the provider is one of these eligible provider types you may continue to see your current therapist or provider with no change necessary to receive reimbursement.
Out-of-pocket outpatient services, including deductibles, co-pays or co-insurance from the approved provider types are eligible for reimbursement. Requests previously submitted to the former fund administrator are not eligible for reimbursement by New Directions.
If you don’t have insurance, you will submit a paid invoice from your provider along with the Reimbursement Form. New Directions applies an industry-accepted formula using reasonable and customary (R&C) benchmarks to determine reimbursement.
